The Festival of Joy
The Pillai Group of Institutions’ exhilarating intercollegiate event Alegria – The Festival of Joy, is one of the most fabulous festivals of its kind in India with a footfall of over 50,000, all gathered to be in the presence of magnificent talent and star celebrities. The Festival of Joy is an increasingly thriving annual event with changing themes including last year’s “Dreamland” and this year’s theme “Light the Night”. Alegria is a product of a zealous and passionate group of students and faculty behind the scenes. The festival has now witnessed appearances from some of the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry. Some versatile Bollywood celebrities such as Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ayushman Khurrana, Siddhart Malhotra, Sonam Kapoor, Karthik Aryan , Nushrat Bharucha, Sunny Nijhar, Govinda, Elli Avram, Saquib Salim, Zayed Khan, Rakul Preet Kaur, Lauren Gottlieb, Jackky Bhagani, Ran Vijay Singha, Pallavi Sharda, Warina Hussain, Pushkar Jog, Sarah Jane Diad, Aaparshakti Khurrana, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Aisha Sharma, Shama Sikander, Rinku Rajguru, Chinmay Udgirkar, Sonali Seygall, Adah Sharma, Rohan Mehra, Nibedita Pal, Chetna Pande along with Indian beatbox sensation D cypher and dance gurus Rahul Shetty and Dhanashree Verma have stepped on the Alegrian dais to promote their movies to the incredible crowd attending the festival and to judge the spectacular events. Sports world champions Bhaichung Bhutiya, Sunil Chhetri, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sahil Khan, Sangram Chougule, Murali Kumar Syed Kirmani and Rushabh Choksi along with his Spartan army have also visited to showcase their talents and to encourage the budding stars in their respective sport. Alegria was delighted to have some outstanding musical artists such as Guru Randhawa, Divine, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Bollywood Superstar Farhan Akhtar, award-winning Romanian pop band Akcent, the billion views lady Dhvani Bhanushali, Armaan Malik and the Sabali Band who won our hearts with their remarkable performances. Here at Alegria we experienced some out of the world DJs like Mariana Bo, Tomorrowland’s resident DJ Yves V, DJs Sultan Shepard, DJ Mag’s 33rd ranked Quintino, Teri Miko, Mike Candys, Hakuna Matata sensation Diego Miranda and the guy who trended Chicken Masala- Bemet who wooed the audience to dance to their beats. At the heart of Alegria – The Festival of Joy, is the noteworthy talent of students who participate, organize, and, oversee more than a hundred different events taking place over the course of the festival with great professionalism and care. The aim of the festival has been to showcase the power of the youth and continues to succeed in doing so.
