“Uber Rang 2018”,
the Annual Talent Show of MES
– Shubham Khairnar
Every year, the MES institution comes together to organize a community service for helping the lesser section of the society and spreading the message of compassion and empathy. But for our dynamic Mr. Franav Pillai, CEO of the Pillai group of Institutions, doing this much wasn’t enough. And so, Uber Rang was introduced.
Making its debut in February 2012, Uber Rang is an inter MES institution talent competition and a forum for students to showcase their talents. All the profit generated at this festival is used for the affiliated NGO’s. This year, the sixth edition of this festival was held on 27th January. The number of participants always keep increasing every year as this is a platform where the students across all the MES institutions can compete with each other on equal terms. The twenty participants who performed the big day were the best out of the 200 entries which came in.
The show started with an introductory speech by DR. Celina Joy, welcoming the jury. The jury consisted of Mr. Amit Rai, Ms. Monica Naithani and Ms. Aishwarya Nair. Mr. Amit Rai is a noted director and some of his one-act and full-length plays have also won him awards for best actor, best director and set designer. Ms. Monica Naithani is an Assistant general manager at Times of India and business head of Times NIE- Mumbai division. Ms. Aishwarya Nair has been dancing professionally from the age of 19 and has worked with many choreographers like Ganesh Hegde, Rajiv Goswami, Sanjay Shetty, just to name a few. She was also a part of the recent, highly successful Dabbang tour by Salman Khan.
The audience consisted of parents, friends and classmates of the participants. The principals and faculty from various MES institutions also attended the festival to cheer their fellow students.
Every year, the participants at Uber Rang mesmerize the audience with their talent and put on an amazing performance. This year was no different. From despacito on a violin, to Kathak on shape of you, we saw everything. The students also showed that they had not forgotten the traditional ways of dancing as they performed classical and folk dances. There were also some groups which gave the traditional dancing ways a western touch. The students also put on some inspirational dances and acting performances which made the audience give them a thunderous applause. The performances were so amazing and breathtaking that it inspired a parent to get on the stage and perform for us as we waited for the jury’s results. The parent sang so beautifully that the crowd went nuts during her performance.
And then came the time to announce the results. The Winners of Uber Rang 2018 were:-
